Overview

CONTEXT

CyberTrace is an endless runner in a synthwave night: you weave a car through traffic on a palm-lined highway, pick up coins and boost, then come back to a neon garage you can walk around, with characters to choose and car skins to change. I made it on my own in ten days for the GameDev.tv Game Jam 2026 — for fun, not for sale.

The challenge

PROBLEM

Ten days, one person, and a jam that rates everything from mechanics to music. The aim was a small game that feels finished — a clear look, a road you can read at speed and a loop worth replaying — rather than a big one that isn't.

Pipeline

PROCESS

Solo, from 15 to 25 May 2026, submitted two and a half hours before the deadline. Characters, vehicles, the garage room, buildings and hologram effects came from Fab asset packs and the music from OVANI Sound, all credited. The gameplay systems, programming, UI, level design and the rest of the assets are mine.

Technical notes

DEPTH

Unreal Engine 5. An endless road with traffic, lane driving with a boost, coins, crashes and restarts; a garage hub explored on foot in third person, with characters and car skins; menus and HUD; and the neon look — lighting, post-processing and a scan-line finish.

Outcome

RESULT

Ranked from ten ratings among 831 entries: #104 for aesthetics, #116 for music and #228 overall. Players liked the look and the music and asked for more — a shop for the coins, upgrades and a stronger sense of speed. Performance on older machines was the one thing ten days didn't leave time for.
